Duane Langston, 2025 Artist of the Year

At the Art Club's holiday party, Kathy Sork presented the club's highest honor - the Artist of the Year - to Duane Langston. As Kathy explained, the honor is awarded to a member who not only is an exceptional artist, but also is an active member of the club, mentoring, teaching and encouraging artists.

Duane Langston, is that and more. A twice-honored Artist of the Month, Duane regularly helps other artists. He paints almost daily, working mostly with oils, although he does an occasional acrylic, watercolor, pastel or charcoal work. His realistic works are detailed and beautifully painted.

After completing a tour with the Marines in Vietnam, Duane attended Boise State, receiving a degree in music theory and composition on the classical guitar, followed by graduate school in jazz performance. While in college, he also studied drawing, watercolor and oil painting and received a minor in Art.

Duane taught classical guitar for 24 years at Boise State while painting with watercolors in his spare time. After retiring, his art hobby became an obsession, taking private lessons from renowned artists and winning many awards in art fairs and shows.

After retirement in 2018, I joined the PebbleCreek Art Club and have served on the Art Club Board as well as many of the club committees. I also serve as registrar on the Pebble Creek Bocce Ball Club Board.

Just before COVID hit, I took a colored pencil class and fell in love with the technique. It gave me the medium with the opportunity to create in great the detail I like. I began by drawing landscapes and then decided I wanted to explore "feathers and fur." After watching a few training You-Tube sessions, I was hooked. ...Read more
